Calgary Events for December – Christmas is Almost Here!

The Christmas season is always an exciting time in the Calgary area. From plays that celebrate the joyful nature of the season, to unique outdoor events, there is something to suit everyone. Consider keeping these events at the top of your list this season.
Santa Claus Parade of Lights
The Santa Claus Parade of Lights falls on November 18th and is one of the top holiday events in Banff. The top event during the day will involve kids meeting with Santa to give him their lists and have their pictures taken. At nightfall, Santa will make his way down Banff Avenue with performers and floats. The stores along these streets will have all kinds of gifts and treats after the parade.Â
Christmas Family Day
Christmas Family Day is on December 3rd at the historic Lougheed House. Christmas carolers and folk singer Jess Knights will provide a great backdrop for the activities. Kids can make either a firefighter or crayon stained glass ornament, as well as maple taffy in the snow, and get their pictures with Santa. There will also be Christmas movies to enjoy, along with cookies and apple cider.Â
Christmas at the Hive
The Chinook Honey Company is the site of a unique celebration from December 3rd to 10th that includes a honey baking contest and beeswax candle making. Be sure to visit with the donkeys, who always love the attention, and try some honey hot chocolate or mulled mead. Make some s’mores by the fire or try making honey toffee.Â
Dashing Through the Glow
Spruce Meadows is the site of the December 9th Dashing Through the Glow race. This race can be either two or five kilometres, depending on your preference, and takes place in the dark, so be sure to have your headlamp ready. When you reach the finish line, you’ll be able to head indoors where hot chocolate and joyful Christmas music await.Â
WHCA’s Winter Wonderland
The West Hillhurst Community Association’s gym is the site of this free family event that takes place on December 16th. A hot cocoa bar welcomes everybody with a tasty favourite treat, and you can take part in gingerbread decorating. There are also Christmas games you can play and a chance to have your picture taken at the snow castle.
Christmas in Calgary is always exciting, and you won’t want to miss out on chances to make the most of this time of year. Adding any of these events to your list of things to do will help keep your holiday season more exciting.
